11 Years without Ofra Haza

It has been exactly 11 years since Ofra’s death. Thanks to many many good people – we now have a new English site in her memory.

On February 23rd, 2001, exactly one year after Ofra passed away, we uploaded a Hebrew website in her memory. Through the years, and with the help of many many good people, this Hebrew website grew larger and larger, and now I believe it is one of the biggest websites in the memory of any singer in the world.

Exactly 11 years to Ofra’s death and 10 years to the Hebrew website, and again with the help of many many good fans from all around the world, we are now uploading an English website in her memory. I got so many e-mails asking me to translate the Hebrew site to English, that I decided it is worth doing, and Ofra’s fans around the world can now use the new website, and learn more about her.

The new English site is different from the Hebrew one. Ofra Haza of Israel was a mainstream singer. Most of her songs could never be sung outside of Israeli for non-Israeli audiences. They were just “too Israeli”. Ofra Haza of the world was more a “world music” singer; she sang oriental songs and wore Yemenite dress. This is why I felt the English website should also look different from the Hebrew site.

There is still much to learn about Ofra’s career around the world, and I’m sure this is only the beginning of the road, but I’m sure this website will help me meet fans from around the world as much as it will help other fans learn about Ofra.

I would like to thank Michal from the website Caspit, who built this site, and did more than I even thought. I also would like to thank Fanch Le Borgne for his HUGE help through the years that we have known each other, and Alistair Jack, who read everything I wrote for this site, corrected it, and gave me great advice.

I would like to apologise for my English. As much as I tried, I guess I can never write with no mistakes in English, so I hope there aren’t too many mistakes, because of the great help of my friends.

We will continue to act in the spirit of Bezalel Aloni, Ofra’s legendary manager, and “Keep the Flame Burning”.
