The Seven Species

A valley of fig and olive,
A vine upon the walls of the house,
And a palm tree rising up to the heart of the heavens.
Sunlight in the wheat, in the pine,
A mountain of barley at the threshing floor,
And a reddish pomegranate for the cheeks.

Ah… the Seven Species,
And the song of the land in the gardens.
Ah… the Seven Species,
And flowers blue and white.

The sons of Jacob bent shoulder and back,
And by the sweat of their brow brought forth bread
From the valley,
From the mountain,
From the sown plain, from the coast, from the desert.
Each man to his brother said, “Peace be upon you,”
And at night, “How goodly are your tents.”
At the end of summer — the shade of clouds,
And after the winter, spring returns.

Ah… the Seven Species…

If we had seen, if we had wished,
If we had changed together…
