Do Not Tell Me Farewell

Do not tell me farewell,
Say only “until we meet again,”
For war is but a dream
Soaked in blood and tears.

There is no more dawn for the day,
How sorrowful are the nights.
Therefore do not say farewell —
Say only “until we meet again.”

The skies darkened on a cold morning,
Rain knocks upon the windows.
Trembling lips, a bitter smile,
Laughter and tearful eyes.

A train platform, a pale lantern,
At a deserted station.
Fire and flame burn in the heart,
For the parting is sorrowful.

Do not tell me farewell…

Your hands grow cold — I kiss them.
The hand races on the clock.
Your face has paled, the throat tightens —
Yes, this is the final sound.

The sun is setting — one more kiss.
The wheels are already grinding.
A waving hand, and in a whisper
I add a few more words.

Do not tell me farewell,
Say only “until we meet again.”
