Giving

Giving

  • Lyrics: Hamutal Ben Ze’ev
  • Music: Bo’az Sharabi
  • Arrangements: Yaron Bachar
  • Album: Greatest Hits (2000)

The song was recorded by Ofra for the Hebrew Work project, dedicated to 50 years of Israeli independance, 1998.
When Ofra chose the song, she turned to Yaron Bachar to produce it, and only after they began to work on it that she found it he also produced the original version of the song, sang by Bo’az Sharabi, 1987.
Ofra: “When I heard the song, I felt it was written for me and sung for me. I love Bo’az Sharabi. All of his songs are soul. When I was asked to choose a song I want to sing, I started thinking and thinking. THen suddenly I said this I want to sing ‘To Give’ by Bo’az Sharabi, because it symbolizes everything for me. All the strengh, the giving, the recieving, what we are, actually. When I had the lyrics in front of me, I was dying to know how did Hamutal Ben Ze’ev write such beautiful endless words. Each line is fill with power and emotion”

Lyrics

To give the soul and the heart,
to give, to give when you love.
And however one finds the difference
between taking and receiving
You will yet learn to give, to give

To discover secrets in secret
To release the tangle of connection
When your heart is pinched
By every smile, every look

You are careful, you know,
And aside from you, no one hears
Walking a fine line
And filling the free time

To give the soul and the heart
to give when you love
you will yet learn to give, to give

You learn with the years
to build buildings together
to live with all the changes.
To weave, with her, a life story
and to get through difficult days
in distress and troubled times
to always know how to give in,
and to savour the taste.

To give the soul and the heart
to give when you love
you will yet learn to give, to give

To see in the midst of the fall,
that there is room for forgiveness
it’s always possible to start again
Like a new day, like the usual – to give
To give
To give

You will yet learn to give, to give
You will yet learn to give, to give
