Israeli most popular grades the greatest 20 Israeli singers of all times, and among them – Ofra Haza
Ofra reached 10th place, right before her own favorite singer, Ester Ofarim.
The jury wrote: “In the end, there is this tragic story, which pushed aside this beautiful voice, her full-of-glory performances, and a great singer, truly great, which is responsiblefor so many touching moments. It seems we will never really understand what exactly happened there, in the real life of Ofra Haza, but at least there are the songs. The way from Hatikva Workshop to the first albums, to the American period and to the end of the career, suffered of materials that didn’t always adequate the standards her voice set, but after all the repertoire is impressive: from the smiley pop of the 70’s in The Bimbo Song, through Israeli anthems such as Along The Sea and Someone Always Walks With Me to Galbi and Im Nin’alu, produced by Izhar Ashdot, which turned her career and was one of the first signs of the ethnic revolution. In the end? There are the songs.
Unforgettable recordings: Someone Always Walks With Me, Im Nin’alu.
