Behind the Sounds

Albom HaZahav (The Golden Album) was born almost by accident, fueled by immense pressure from fans who had grown accustomed to a new Ofra Haza release every Passover. Although its production wasn’t originally planned, public demand prevailed, leading to such a tight release schedule that the very first copies hit stores without the traditional included poster. Due to copyright conflicts with previous labels, Ofra re-recorded updated versions of massive hits like “Shir HaFrecha”, “HaGeshem”, and “Shir Ahava LeChayal” at the Hed Arzi studios, giving them a more mature, polished sound. Beyond summarizing her local success, the album signaled her upcoming international breakthrough with its first English and French tracks, solidifying her status as a global icon. The album ranked 37th on the list of best-selling albums for the Hebrew year 5746 (1985–1986).

Critical Acclaim

“This double album showcases Ofra Haza in all her facets across its four sides—all in one package, including songs close to my heart such as ‘Rachamim’, ‘Goral Echad’, and ‘Mishehu Holech Tamid Iti’. Fans who are unfamiliar with her previous records will find a rewarding collection here, packed with hits for the entire family.” (Yossi Chersonski, “Ma’ariv”, May 16, 1986).
