Behind the Sounds

The album “Adama” (Earth) marked a significant turning point in Ofra Haza’s career. After years of upbeat pop hits, Ofra sought to connect with songs of a more patriotic and classical nature. This was her first album that featured no songs written by Bezalel Aloni; instead, she collaborated with the giants of Israeli culture, including Naomi Shemer, Ehud Manor, and Sasha Argov. The album produced timeless classics such as Mishehu Holekh Tamid Iti, Goral Echad, and the title track Adama. Behind-the-scenes stories reveal Ofra’s artistic depth: from her insistence on recording Od Mechaka La’echad accompanied only by Sasha Argov on piano, to the famous credit error on the song Rachamim that forced the record label to manually apply correction stickers to the covers. Within just two months, the album achieved Platinum status, a rare feat that solidified Ofra’s status as Israel’s national singer.
