You’ve Got a Friend

  • Lyrics: Carole King
  • Music: Carole King
  • Arrangements: Frank Peterson
  • Album: Ofra Haza (1997)

Ofra: “In every one of my international albums I wanted to perform this song, but it got pushed out. This time, when we were in the studio, we were talking about friends and family. I spoke about how important it is for everyone to have one good, true friend—someone who, in times of trouble, always reaches out a hand. Just like in our country: for all the problems we have on the social side, when something happens everyone comes together. We have a good soul. And suddenly I said, ‘That’s it—I want to sing “You’ve Got a Friend.”’ The producer told me, ‘Alright, go into the studio.’ I started singing, and I was surprised I still remembered all the words. At last I fulfilled my little dream of singing that song.”

You've Got a Friend
I'll come running just to see you again

When you're down and troubled
And you need some loving care
And nothing, nothing is going right
Close your eyes and think of me
And soon I will be there
To bright up even your darkest night

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there - yeah, yeah
You've got a friend

If the sky above you
Grows dark and full of clouds
And that old north wind
Begins to blow
Keep your had together
And call my name out loud
Soon you'll hear me
Knocking at your door

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running just to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there
Yes I will

Now - ain't it good to know
That you've got a friend
When people can be so cold
They'll hurt you and desert you
And take your soul if you let them
Oh, but don’t you let them

You just call out my name
And you know wherever I am
I'll come running, running to see you again
Winter, spring, summer or fall
All you have to do is call
And I'll be there
Yes I will
To see you again
You've got a friend
