David Ben Gurion – Israel’s Declaration of Independence, May 14, 1948

Ofra: “It may not be a song, but it is undoubtedly the greatest hit of the Jewish people. It is an honor for me to open my album with this masterpiece.”
  • Translation

This is the natural right of the Jewish people, to be like all nations, standing free and independent in their sovereign state.
Therefore, we, the members of the People’s Council, representatives of the Jewish community and the Zionist movement, gathered on the day of the termination of the British Mandate over the Land of Israel,
and by virtue of our natural and historical right, and based on the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly,
hereby declare the establishment of a Jewish state in the Land of Israel, it is the State of Israel.
